The Walworth County Commission, at their meeting Tuesday, October 19th, decided to exchange with the City of Mobridge – the cost of materials from tearing down two buildings for a discount on rent for the Emergency Manager’s office in the Mobridge Fire Hall.
A motion was passed to rescind a previous motion to advertise for bids on a new scale for the landfill. The commission decided to go outside the bidding process to make an emergency purchase from Webster Scale. Walworth County State’s Attorney Jamie Hare explained that the condition of the current scale has become a safety issue.
The commissioners approved the first reading of Ordinance WC 21-18 which will repeal Ordinance WC 21-13 establishing a jail supervisor. Commissioner Scott Schilling voted against the first reading. Commissioner Rick Cain said it was his opinion that there is no longer a need for the ordinance.
The commission discussed Commissioner Schilling’s motion to advertise for an Extension/4-H Youth Advisor position. Commissioners Jim Houck and Duane Mohr suggested meeting with Campbell County before making a decision to advertise. Commissioner Cain talked about the issue with regards to an upcoming hearing for a budget supplement.
Commissioner Schilling rescinded his motion and will visit with Campbell County about continuing a partnership between the two counties with Extension and 4-H.
Also at the meeting, liquor licenses were renewed for New Evarts, Mobridge Country Club, and Tina & Gerald Thompson Jr./The Campground Lounge.
Jesse Konold with Key Insurance gave the commissioners information and pricing on group plans for health insurance for county employees.
