BRANDON – Five Pierre Governors have been named to the 2021 All-ESD team, released Monday.
The Governors’ Lincoln Kienholz is the All-ESD quarterback, named to the team for the second straight season. Kienholz, a junior, recently became the Governors’ all-time leader in passing yardage for a single season (3,012) and career (5,331). His 56 career touchdown passes are second in school history. Also, Kienholz has rushed for 975 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Wide receiver Jack Merkwan was also honored. Merkwan is the Governors’ leader in receptions with 51 and receiving yards with 1,176, just 17 short of the single-season school record.
Offensive lineman Christian Busch also made all-ESD. Busch has been part of the Governor offensive line that has helped Pierre’s offense average 413 yards per game.
Also named from the Governors were defensive lineman Jaden Flor and safety Jacob Mayer. Flor is Pierre’s leader in tackles for losses with 18 and a half and also has three and a half sacks. Mayer, who picked off two passes in last week’s semifinal win over Aberdeen Central, has four interceptions this season.
Brookings led with seven all-ESD selections.
