VERMILLION – No one had come close to slowing down the Winner Warriors in the 2021 football season. That didn’t change Friday.
Winner breezed past Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan at the DakotaDome 40-8 to win their second straight 11B championship and their 24th game in a row.
Kaden Keiser took a pitch on the Warriors’ first play from scrimmage and raced 61 yards for a touchdown. Aiden Barfuss, who rushed for 126 yards, ran in from 35 yards for a score on the second possession for Winner (12-0) and the outcome realistically was no longer in doubt.
Quarterback Joey Cole rushed for scores in the second and third quarters.
Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan (8-4) had their only touchdown on a third-quarter keeper by quarterback Kaden Klumb.
Cole’s nine-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Bartels early in the fourth quarter for Winner ended the scoring.
Keiser rushed for 99 yards for the Warriors, who won their ninth championship, tying O’Gorman for the second-most titles in South Dakota history. Winner has appeared in 17 championship games.
