Here are some Feel Good Friday Stories for us this week….
1. A 105-year-old runner named Julia “Hurricane” Hawkins set a world record in her age group last week for the 100-meter dash. She did it in 1 minute and 3 seconds, and was a little upset afterward. She was hoping to break a minute.
2. A black cat that went missing in Pennsylvania in August just turned up at a shelter in New York, 200 miles away . . . and no one knows how it got there. Its owners didn’t believe it at first, but a microchip said it was their cat, Dagger. They drove to the shelter, expecting it to be some sort of mix-up. But they say it’s definitely their cat.
3. An Air Force veteran named Jordan Moon just finished running from San Francisco to New York to raise money for brain cancer research. So people are calling him a real-life Forrest Gump. He averaged around 50 miles, or two full marathons a DAY . . . and finished on Veterans Day last week.
4. A guy in Singapore was born with a rare genetic condition, and wasn’t expected to live past the age of two. But last month, he turned 24. And on the very same day, he graduated from college as the valedictorian of his class.
5. A couple in Hawaii recently went hiking with their dog . . . got lost . . . and a 12-year-old Boy Scout saved them. He was out with his mom, trying to earn his merit badge for hiking. They came across the couple and led them back. But their dog’s feet were so scraped up, it couldn’t walk. So he fashioned a stretcher out of a big tree branch and some t-shirts, and they carried the dog the rest of the way.
6. A random guy near Santa Cruz, California was out jogging this month when he saw smoke billowing out of someone’s house. So he hit their Ring doorbell, and a woman who lived there answered through an app. She and her family weren’t home, but their PETS were. So she gave the guy a code to get in, and he ended up rescuing their cat . . . their rabbit . . . and both of their dogs. The fire department was also able to save the house. But the jogger took off before the woman and her family could thank him.
7. A dog in Tennessee named Gus chased after a burglar and took a bullet to the HEAD, but survived. Now the burglar is in jail, and Gus is the town hero. This month, everyone in his neighborhood got together and threw a party for his second birthday.
8. A guy in Arizona named Jed Mottley played high school football in the ’90s and ordered a letterman jacket in 1994, but his mom couldn’t afford it. So all his buddies got one, but he never did . . . until now. It turns out the school ordered it, but held onto it when he couldn’t pay. And his brother just found it in a THRIFT STORE almost 30 years later. It’s got his name and jersey number, so it’s definitely his. And it’s mint. It’s never been worn, and still has the tag. He says it was something like $300 in 1994, but his brother snapped it up at the thrift store for 45 bucks.
