How do you make toast? Probably the wrong way. Queen of the kitchen Nigella Lawson has shared the proper way to spread butter on a humble piece of toast. The television chef has shared her “double buttering” technique. Detailing her process on an episode of Cook, Eat, Repeat, Lawson says she butters bread the “minute” it pops out of the toaster so that it melts into the warmed folds of the dough. Then wait until the toast cools before commencing phase two: slathering more butter onto the lukewarm slice. Lawson says a second coat will allow the butter to “stay in some golden patches on the surface.” The celebrity chef also opts for unsalted butter, preferring to add flakes of sea salt as a garnish instead.
