The annual lighting of Fort Pierre’s Christmas Tree will be held tomorrow (Dec. 4) as part of the town’s Cowboy Christmas activities.
Sunny Hannum with the Fort Pierre Development Corporation says the fun begins at 4pm.
If you’ve seen the featured tree in the South Dakota Capitol Rotunda, Hannum says Fort Pierre’s tree may look a little familiar.
Hanumm says caroling starts at 6:30pm CT, with the tree lighting at 7pm.
Again, this year’s featured tree in Fort Pierre is a Colorado Blue Spruce donated by Austyn Gackle and Jessica Damjanovich of Pierre. It has been placed in the manhole– designed for this purpose– at the intersection of Main Avenue and Deadwood Street.
As a reminder…. Fort Pierre residents and businesses have until Dec. 15, 2021, to sign up for this year’s Christmas Lighting contest. This year, there are additional categories for residential lighting. They are:
- Traditional,
- Best Creative Use of Lights,
- Unique Design and
- Overall Presentation.
A $25 gift certificate to Dakotamart will be given to the winner in each of these categories. There is one prize for the best Business Lighting– a half membership to Fort Pierre Development Corporation.
To enter, businesses and residents should call the FPDC office at 605-223-7603 or email fpdc@fortpierre.com. Be sure to include your address and phone number when registering by phone or via email.
