FORT PIERRE – Stanley County state championship football player Steve Hoffman and longtime coach Cliff Jorgenson are the 2022 inductees into the Buffalo Hall of Fame.
Hoffman was a four-year football player for Stanley County, including on the 1986 9A state champions as a starting guard and linebacker. In the Buffaloes’ 26-8 title game win over Tripp-Delmont, Hoffman was named as the Most Valuable Lineman of the game. He also was on the Western Athletic All-Conference Team.
Hoffman also wrestled for four years with 161 wins, at the time the school record. In his sophomore year, 1985, Hoffman was sixth at state as SC finished fourth. In 1986, Hoffman’s junior year, he finished second after upsetting defending state champion Doug Wright of Redfield in the second round. Hoffman was eighth at state in his senior year.
Hoffman, a USD graduate, is a Chartered Financial Analyst, published author and motivational speaker.
Jorgenson coached basketball, cross country, track & field and gymnastics at Stanley County in the 1980s and 1990s. He coached three Little Central Athletic Conference champions and eight place-winners at the state track meet.
Jorgenson was the Buffaloes’ gymnastics coach for 10 seasons starting in 1984, and every one of his teams made the state tournament, including three second-place finishes. He also coached five different state champions.
Hoffman and Jorgenson will be inducted at Parkview Auditorium during the Big Dakota Conference wrestling tournament on Saturday, February 5.
