Bill providing $3.5 million to revamp Capitol Lake Complex in Pierre signed by Governor

UPDATE MARCH 7, 2022:

Governor Kristi Noem has signed a bill (HB1013) that provides $3.5 million for a Master Plan for Capitol Lake and the Veterans Memorials in Pierre.

Representative Will Mortenson of Pierre helped carry the bill through the House. He says the public will be included when deciding what changes actually happen.

Mortenson says they do know some of the work that needs to be done includes plugging the existing well and activities to improve the lake water quality.

MARCH 4, 2022:

South Dakota legislators have passed a bill that provides $3.5 million for a Master Plan for Capitol Lake and the Veterans Memorials in Pierre.

Representative Will Mortenson of Pierre helped carry the bill through the House. He says the allocation will be used for plugging the existing well and activities to improve the lake water quality.

As to what changes actually happen, Mortenson says the public will be included in making those decisions.
