Mayors from Herreid and Mobridge have been re-elected to leadership positions in the South Dakota Municipal League’s District 7.
Herreid Mayor Gary Weismantel was re-elected as District Chair and Mobridge Mayor Gene Cox was re-elected as Vice Chair.
The election was held during the annual District 7 meeting in Herreid this week (March 22, 2022).
More than 60 municipal officials representing 12 cities heard South Dakota Municipal League Executive Director Yvonne Taylor recap the 2022 Legislative Session and the effect new laws will have on South Dakota municipalities. Taylor also discussed the direction and future of the Municipal League and services offered to the municipalities.
Taylor says more and more they are seeing the need to get better information out to the citizens and legislators because municipal government provides a vast array of services, and people need to be informed of where their tax dollars are going. She says taxpayers would be very proud of their local government if they were fully aware of how much service a municipality provides at a relatively low cost.
