The Walworth County Commission held a regular meeting on Thursday, April 7th, 2022.
A motion was passed to give all employees a pay increase of $1.50 per hour starting in the next pay period, with office deputies having a starting wage from this point forward of $17.45 per hour.
The second reading of the Burn Ban Ordinance Amendment was approved, with two commissioners voting against – Kevin Holgard and Scott Schilling. Walworth County Emergency Manager Jeff Jensen explained the two parts of the amendment.
For the Highway Department the commissioners were in favor of a request from Venture Communications to occupy right-of-way service to the Kathy Bohle residence and authorized Highway Superintendent Gary Byre to sign.
A Memorandum of Understanding between Walworth County and SDSU for 4-H was approved.
For the Sheriff’s office, the commission approved signing a boarding contract with Codington County.
The commissioners passed a motion to advertise for a public hearing regarding a possible update to the Wheel Tax Ordinance. At issue is whether the revenue generated by the wheel tax should stay 100% with the county, or, as it has been – the county keeping 90% of the revenue and the other 10% being distributed among the municipalities in the county.
A Vietnam War Veterans proclamation was read that designates March 29th, 2023 as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day. That date will mark the 50th anniversary of the withdrawal of U.S. military from Vietnam.
County Auditor Deb Kahl announced a Drawing for Order of Candidates on Ballots, which will take place Friday, April 8th, at 10:00am. It will be live on the county’s Facebook page and is open to the public. It will include Bob Thomason and Scott Schilling for County Commissioner, and for Register of Deeds – Brenda DeToy and Eva Cagnones.
