SIOUX FALLS – Minnesota assistant coach Garrett Raboin has been named as the first head coach of the Augustana men’s hockey program, which is set to start play in the fall of 2023.
Raboin has been an assistant at Minnesota and the Gophers’ chief recruiter for the past four seasons. Before that, he had been an assistant at his alma mater, St. Cloud State, for six seasons. He played for current Minnesota head coach Bob Motzko in St. Cloud, and then was Motzko’s assistant at SCSU and at Minnesota.
The Gophers made the NCAA Frozen Four this past season.
Augustana will play in a new 3,000-seat facility, Midco Arena, that is being built on campus. The Vikings will have the first varsity college hockey program in South Dakota.
