SIOUX FALLS – In a wild day of baseball Saturday, the Pierre Governors split with the Washington Warriors in Sioux Falls. Washington won the opener 24-13 before the Governors ran away with the second game 24-1.
Pierre took a 5-2 lead in the top of the second inning of the first game with a three-run home run by Lincoln Kienholz. Washington then scored 13 runs in the bottom of the second. Pierre cut the Warriors’ lead to 16-9 before Washington scored eight more runs in the fourth.
George Stalley had two hits and three RBI for the Governors. Gary Nedved had three hits and two RBI.
Pierre (4-6) took its turn for big offense in the second game, scoring six runs in the first inning, three in the second and 14 more in the third on the way to ending its six-game losing streak. Stalley was four-for-five with five RBI. Cade Kaiser homered and drove in three runs for the Governors, who also had three RBI each from Grayson Hunsley, Jett Zabel and Matthew Brewer. Winning pitcher Jackson Edman threw three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out three.
