Travis Dovre, first-time candidate, has announced his run for Hughes County Commissioner.
“I decided to run in this election because I want to give back to my community,” said Dovre. “I have economic development and financial strengths, a dedicated work ethic, and government experience.”
Dovre’s priorities include improving infrastructure, upholding property owner rights, developing the state’s largest industry – agriculture, and keeping taxes as low as possible while optimizing the best use of resources.
“I’m positioned to help find funding for improvements, and at the least, maintain what we already have,” said Dovre. “I support planned growth and development to expand the property tax base.”
Dovre, 43, has been a lifelong resident of the two Dakotas and of Hughes County for nearly 18 years. Dovre and his wife Dawn live north of Pierre in the Spring Creek area and are proud of having recruited many family members to the county.
Early and absentee voting has commenced in Hughes County, and the primary election will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2022. Three others have also filed petitions to run for Hughes County Commission, including incumbents Bill Abernathy and Connie Hohn, and Rob Fines.
DRG Media Group will be hosting a candidate forum for the Hughes and Stanley County Commission candidates Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 4pm at the South Dakota Municipal League’s conference room in Fort Pierre. Prior to the county commission forum will be the District 24 House and Senate Candidates at 2pm and the Pierre School Board candidates at 3pm.
