Here is today’s edition of you Feel Good Friday stories…
1. A Chicago man who jumped onto train tracks to rescue someone who had fallen onto an electrified rail during a fight at an L station earned more than praise for his heroic act. On Monday, he got off at a stop on the Chicago Transit Authority’s Red Line when he noticed a nearly unconscious man on the electrified third rail of the tracks. He jumped down on the tracks and pulled the man to safety. Then twenty-year-old Anthony Perry was surprised Wednesday with a 2009 Audi A8 from the founder of a local anti-violence group. Perry said the car will make his life “way easier.” The South Side resident has been taking two buses and a train to get to his job with Amazon Fresh in suburban Oak Lawn.
2. A 104-year-old woman in Connecticut named Bertha Komor just fulfilled her lifelong dream of hanging out with a penguin. Employees at her retirement home got in touch with an aquarium and made it happen.
3. A waitress in New Orleans recently got a $777 tip on a $63 bill. But instead of keeping it, she donated it to her church.
4. The owner of a gas station in Phoenix was in the news back in March after he lowered the price of gas to give people a break. He was selling it for 10 cents a gallon cheaper than he paid, so at a slight loss. And it turns out he never stopped. A local news station in Phoenix just did a follow-up, and he’s taking an even bigger loss now. He’s currently selling it for 47 cents less than he pays. He says it’s worth it to give people in his community a little help.
5. A couple in Thailand got married in 1957 and finally just got their wedding photos taken. Their grandson made it happen. He even got them a tux and gown to wear.
6. Four best friends are in the news because they all got pregnant at the same time . . . gave birth within weeks of each other . . . and then it happened AGAIN. All four got pregnant a second time and gave birth within months of each other that time as well. So now all eight of their kids get to grow up together.
7. An 84-year-old woman who owns a hotel in England recently shut it down in the middle of her busiest season . . . so Ukrainian refugees could stay there instead. She’s taken in 22 people so far.
8. A high school in New Jersey did a Lost and Found Day where students could claim lost stuff. But it was really just a setup to surprise one specific teacher with a son who’s in the military. He’d been in Iraq, and she hadn’t seen him in over a year.
9. Some guy bought an old payphone and hung it up in his office as “art.” But it doesn’t just hang there. He connected it to a phone in his young daughter’s bedroom. So when she picks up the receiver, the payphone automatically rings. Now she can talk to him anytime she wants. When it rings, he says it’s a nice surprise . . . “most of the time.”
