A flash flood warning is in effect in the Pierre and Fort Pierre area until 9:45 this morning (June 13, 2022) after a powerful storm system moved through western and central South Dakota last night and early this morning.
Megan Mulford is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Office in Aberdeen.
This storm system followed one that moved through the area Saturday night into Sunday morning causing extensive damage and downed power lines in the Philip area.
Did the quick switch from cool temperatures to hot and humid weather conditions play a factor in causing the strong storm?
Mulford says they’ll learn more in the light of day today.
Rainfall amounts ranging from 1-3 inches have been reported to the DRG Media Group so far this morning.
