VERMILLION – South Dakota’s universities now have permission to sell alcohol in general admission areas at athletic events.
In the June meeting of the South Dakota Board of Regents, which concluded Thursday in Vermillion, the board approved the expanded sales policy. Previously, alcohol could only be sold to holders of select box seats and seats in loge areas.
Universities who choose to adopt the policy must define start and end times for sales of alcohol, have at least one designated zone free of alcohol and sell alcohol separately from other concessions.
The universities governed by the Board of Regents are South Dakota State, the University of South Dakota, Northern State, Black Hills State, Dakota State and South Dakota Mines.
