MONTREAL – Wingers Liam Öhgren and Danila Yurov were the first-round draft choices of the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.
Öhgren, selected 19th overall, was named the top forward in the Swedish junior league this past season with 33 goals and 58 points in 30 games. He also was on the gold medal team at the Under-18 World Championships. It’s expected that he will play professionally in Sweden next season.
At 24th overall, the Wild chose Yurov, a Russian purported to be a good two-way player. He scored 13 goals and 36 points in 23 games for his junior team last season before playing 21 games in the KHL.
