ONIDA – Longtime Sully Buttes girls basketball and football head coach and teacher Mark Senftner died Saturday at age 60 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, nearly two years after being diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Mark’s wife Lynn announced his death on his CaringBridge website.
Senftner, who was enshrined in the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Hall of Shrine and the Onida/Sully Buttes Hall of Fame earlier this year, coached the Chargers to Class B state championships in 2007, 2008, 2016 and 2017 and seven other state tournament appearances. In 14 seasons as Sully Buttes football head coach, Senftner was 101-42 and guided the Chargers to state championship games in 2015, 2017 and 2018.
