The Wednesday, October 19th, Walworth County Commission meeting included an informative discussion with Brown County officials on the concept of a regional jail. Brown County has purchased the old Hub City building in Aberdeen as a potential location for a regional jail, and they have been visiting with several counties in an effort to gauge the amount of interest that exists. Several points were brought up during the discussion, including the issue of where to hold court.
HIGHWAY
For the Highway Department the commission approved a Resolution to Establish Criteria to Award Rural Access Infrastructure Funding, which is required to spend raised funds, according to Highway Superintendent Gary Byre.
An amended lease agreement with Matt Arbach for the contractor-furnished stockpile was approved.
The commission approved a joint power agreement with South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks to have county forces place a pit run on 135th Street from 316th Avenue for the Spring Lake Project. The agreement was approved depending on the highway department’s staffing and work schedule.
The commission removed from Resolution 2022-10 the limitation on load trucks on 300th Avenue, Blue Blanket Road, due to the water having receded. The Resolution is still in place with all other restrictions and a 25 mph speed limit.
EMERGENCY MANAGMENT
The commissioners passed a motion to hold off on paying an invoice from IMEG for the Hiddenwood H & H Study until the study is complete.
LANDFILL
The Landfill Waste Survey done by Santec Consulting Services at a cost of $5700.00 was approved. Commissioner Duane Mohr said this is an annual survey that is required by the state.
AUDITOR
Workman’s Comp Insurance and the Opioid Settlement Agreement were both approved.
The commissioners authorized the Auditor to publish for a public hearing for Liquor Licenses at the first meeting in November, which will be November 3rd.
An Auction Sale of two lots in Java is scheduled to take place on the Courthouse steps Nov 16th. The commissioners passed a motion to appoint Rick Cain, Harley Overseth, and Scott Schilling to get appraisals on those properties. The sale will be advertised.
