It’s a big day in the small town of Philip today (Dec. 8, 2022) as residents celebrate the grand opening of the Philip Health Center.
CEO Jeremy Schultes says the expansion and renovation has been in the works for several years.
In the late 1990s, an expansion and renovation of the hospital was needed so supporters began a capital campaign and turned to the US Department of Agriculture Rural Development office in South Dakota to see what financial assistance might be available.
Campaign Chair Roger Porch says they used that fundraising effort as a guide for this new project.
Vonda Hamill, Director of the Philip Area Healthcare Foundation, says they’ve had great turnout for people fulfilling their pledges.
South Dakota Rural Development State Director Nikki Gronli they provided $5.99 million for the project.
Again, the grand opening is today from 1-4pm at the Philip Health Center. There will be speakers at 1pm, otherwise it’s a come and go style open house event.
