VERMILLION – Josh Davis, wide receivers coach for FCS national champion South Dakota State, has been named as South Dakota’s offensive coordinator.
The USD position had been vacant since the third week of this past season, when Coyotes Head Coach Bob Nielson took over the offensive play-calling duties from Ted Schlafke, who remained as quarterbacks coach until he left the program after the season ended.
Davis, who set SDSU’s reception record as a player, first coached the Jackrabbits’ wide receivers from 2009-15 before becoming the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Northwestern College for six seasons. He then returned to his alma mater last February.
Davis will be in charge of a USD offense that was last in passing yards in the Missouri Valley Football Conference in 2022 with 1,796 yards. The leading Coyote receiver, Wes Eliodor, decided to enter the transfer portal.
