A 50 year old man from Philip was sentenced yesterday (March 20, 2023) in Haakon County on three separate criminal files.
State’s Attorney Tom Maher says Todd Thorson was originally sentenced to 5 years imprisonment for Ingestion of Methamphetamine in 2020, which was suspended upon successful completion of probation. Following repeated violations of Thorson’s probation conditions in 2021 and 2022, Thorson committed additional offenses of Ingestion of Methamphetamine and Driving Under the Influence, also in Haakon County.
After reviewing the matter, the judge re-sentenced Thorson to 5 years imprisonment in addition to another 5 years for the new felony drug offense, which would be served consecutively (one after the other). Along with fines, court costs, attorney’s fees, loss of driving privileges, 180 days credit for time already served in jail, the judge then suspended the prison sentence on the condition that Thorson successfully complete the 6th Circuit Problem Solving Court program in Hughes and Stanley counties. The program includes several other supervision and treatment related terms and conditions.
The incidents were investigated by law enforcement officers of the Haakon County Sheriff’s Office and Philip Police Department.
