APRIL 26, 2023:
The Pierre Public School District is making a small change to the boundaries for its three elementary schools.
Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt says the numbers have become somewhat lopsided.
Business manager Darla Mayer outlines the territory the district is changing from Jefferson to Kennedy.
Glodt says managing open enrollments is basically the only way the district can make adjustments to get the numbers back into balance. He says transitioning from one elementary school to another is made easier because each school has the same curriculum.
The current elementary school boundaries were redrawn about a year after the newest building of the three– Kennedy– opened over seven years ago (August 2015).

FEBRUARY 14, 2023:
Attendance at the three elementary schools in the Pierre Public School District has become somewhat lopsided, so district officials are discussing how to bring them back into balance.
Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt says the current elementary school boundaries were redrawn about a year after the newest building of the three– Kennedy– opened roughly seven years ago.
Glodt says last month’s (Jan. 2023) enrollment numbers show Jefferson and Buchanan each with over 400 students, while Kennedy is under 400.
Glodt says open enrollments are basically the only mechanism the district has to get the numbers back into balance.
Glodt says before any elementary school boundaries would be changed, a recommendation will be presented to the Pierre School Board showing how big of an area would need to be moved from the Jefferson district to the Kennedy district.
