All three District 23 South Dakota legislators – Bryan Breitling, Scott Moore, and James Wangsness – stopped by to visit with the Walworth County Commissioners during their regular meeting on Tuesday, May 2nd. They talked about a variety of issues, including county funding, building jails, and economic development. The legislators listened to the commissioners’ concerns and will take them back to Pierre for consideration.
Solar Farm Ordinance
Also at the meeting, the commission passed an ordinance for a moratorium on the construction of a solar farm in Walworth County. Commissioner Justin Jungwirth read the ordinance.
Tax Deed Properties
Tax deed properties will be auctioned on the Courthouse steps on May 17th at 10:00am. The commission approved a motion to put those properties up for auction with the stipulation that all structures on the properties be removed or rehabilitated within one year.
Personnel Policy – Admin Time
Admin time for county employees was discussed. The first motion presented by Commissioner Kevin Holgard paying out 75% at the first pay period next January failed. A second motion by Commissioner Jungwirth paying out 100% by the end of 2023 passed. Deb Kahl read the motion back to the commissioners before their vote to approve it.
County Auditor Charity Pepin said entering 2024 admin time will no longer exist in the personnel policy.
Equipment
The commission approved the purchase of a blower and sweeper for the Grasshopper at a total cost of $4,000.00.
Landfill
Commissioner Duane Mohr announced Walworth County Clean-Up Days, free to residents of Walworth County, will be May 15th thru the 20th.
