PIERRE – Pierre’s new collegiate summer league baseball team, the Oahe Zap, will play its first game in Independence League Baseball Tuesday at Hyde Stadium.
The Zap, whose ownership is comprised of Pierre-Fort Pierre area citizens and those with ties to the area, begin their first season in ILB with the same arrangement that the Pierre Trappers had, sharing Hyde Stadium with Post 8 Legion baseball.
One of the co-owners of the Zap, Jackson Bruce, said that a lot of work has led to Opening Night.
Bruce said that there are some former Trappers players on the Zap roster.
Uncertainty permeated the 2022 season, with the end of the Trappers and the Expedition League. Bruce said that the feeling now is nothing like last year.
Bruce said that baseball fans and area businesses should know that the Zap want to be around long-term.
The Zap, managed by former Trappers manager and team co-owner Jamy Habeger, will play the Nebraska Prospects Tuesday at Hyde Stadium at 6:35 in the first game of a three-game series and a 64-game regular seaosn.
