The Walworth County Commissioners began their meeting (on Tuesday, May 23rd) by observing a moment of silence in memory of former Walworth County Sheriff and Commissioner Jim Spiry.
Highway Department
For the north county line power line project, the commissioners approved the Chairman to sign a Certificate of Voluntary Right of Way Acquisition and Option to Provide Material, along with a temporary access easement. They also voted to authorize start up of the project.
A joint power agreement with the South Dakota Department of Transportation for a statewide pavement strengthening program for fiscal year 2023, 16 miles projected, was approved.
A permit to occupy right of way for Emily Stiegelmeier to place a domestic water line was also approved.
The commissioners passed a motion to support a contract with KLJ Engineering on a 5-year plan for Walworth County Roads and Bridges at a cost of around $30,000.
There was some follow-up discussion relating to the Master Transportation Plan. Commissioner Scott Schilling plans to call each commissioner individually on Friday this week to discuss.
A public hearing was held on an asphalt bid. The board accepted the bid from Jensen Rock & Sand for .62 cents per square yard for asphalt treatment applied, $33 per ton contract furnished.
Treasurer
Walworth County Treasurer Cindy Geier updated the commissioners on the tax deed properties she is working on.
Register of Deeds
Register of Deeds Brenda DeToy suggested the commissioners consider starting a program to put liens on prisoner costs as a means of bringing money back in to the county that is dispersed out.
Landfill
Commissioner Duane Mohr said the Walworth County Clean-up Days last week went very well.
Mohr also reported that the landfill is currently dealing with truckloads of concrete and lime from Fort Yates.
Auditor
The commission approved some abatements, and also liquor license renewals for the Hoven Country Club, Bridge City Marina & Resort, and Mudline Adventures – doing business as New Everts Resort.
