JUNE 1, 2023:
A funeral service will be held Monday (June 5, 2023) afternoon for a 14 year old from rural Fort Pierre killed in an accident over the weekend (May 27, 2023).
River Ray Ludemann was in a Jeep when the accident happened around 9:30pm CT Saturday in the Off Road Vehicle area just south of the Oahe Dam. He was transported by AMR ambulance service to Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Visitation will be Monday from 1-3pm CT at the Stanley County Fairgrounds in Fort Pierre. The funeral service will begin at 3pm.
On a GoFundMe account set up for the family, River’s mom Jessica said about his upcoming funeral, “please don’t wear sad clothing. He loved clothes so wear your hats. Do not take them off.”
This was the second fatal incident in the rural Fort Pierre area in under four days. Last week Wednesday (May 24, 2023), the home of Trevor and Kelsey Hupp exploded, killing their 6 month old daughter Harper and both of Trevor’s parents, Bill and LaDonna.
The Stanley County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident. Other agencies responding were South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, Fort Pierre Volunteer Fire Department, Pierre Rescue Squad and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

A teenager from rural Fort Pierre has died as the result of a one vehicle accident a little after 9:30pm CT last night (May 27, 2023) in an Off Road Vehicle area in Stanley County.
According to the Stanley County Sheriff’s Office, the 14-year-old was in a Jeep when the incident happened. He was transported by AMR ambulance service to Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Off Road Vehicle area is just south of the Oahe Dam, off of Highway 1806.
The accident is still under investigation.
Other agencies responding were South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, Fort Pierre Volunteer Fire Department, Pierre Rescue Squad and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
