ABERDEEN – Form held Thursday in the first round of the SDHSAA Class B Softball State Tournament at Players Softball Complex, though top seed Alcester-Hudson staved off a challenge by Hanson.
Alcester-Hudson 4, Hanson 2
Alcester-Hudson (13-1) held off eighth-seeded Hanson behind three hits by Sarah Ebert and two hits by Delta Pies. Winning pitcher Emma Moller struck out 13.
Cadence Jarding had three hits for Hanson (5-11).
Bon Homme 6, Gayville-Volin 2
Kenadee Kozak pitched a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts for Bon Homme (14-4). Jurni Vavruska tripled, homered and drove in two.
Kylee Nelson doubled in the two runs for Gayville-Volin (11-7) in the bottom of the seventh.
Arlington 13, Viborg-Hurley 6
Arlington (15-4) rallied from an early 2-0 deficit with five runs in the third inning and eight more in the fifth. Tyler Clausen was the winning pitcher with 12 strikeouts for the Cardinals, and also drove in five runs with two triples and a double. Sony Johnson single, doubled and had three RBI.
Raegan Smith and Gia Miller drove in two runs each for Viborg-Hurley (8-10).
Castlewood 13, Deuel 3
Castlewood (11-5) scored six first-inning runs before winning in five by run rule. Mackenzie Everson had a three-run inside-the-park home run and a bases-loaded walk for the Warriors.
Zadie Johnson hit an RBI double for Deuel (12-5).
