ABERDEEN – Lyndsey Archer singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning Saturday to give Castlewood a 3-2 victory over top seed Alcester-Hudson in the first SDHSAA Class B Softball Championship at Players Softball Complex.
Castlewood (13-5) took the lead on a first-inning error, then made the game 2-0 on a sacrifice fly in the third by Madeline Horn. Alcester-Hudson (14-2) came back with an RBI double by Sarah Ebert in the fourth and a tying Paxtyn Moller RBI single in the fifth.
Claire Horn was the Castlewood winning pitcher, striking out five.
3rd Place – Arlington 4, Bon Homme 0
Taya Clausen struck out 15 while throwing a two-hit shutout for Arlington (16-5). Kenadee Kozak struck out six for Bon Homme (14-6).
5th Place – Hanson 11, Viborg-Hurley 9
Hanson (7-11) scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take the lead for good after Viborg-Hurley had scored five in the top of the fourth. Jersey Kampshoff was three-for-four with a double and three RBI. Zoey Christensen and Alexia Lindemann drove in three runs each for Viborg-Hurley (9-11).
7th Place – Deuel 6, Gayville-Volin 3
Harley Hennings hit a two-run triple as Deuel (13-6) took a 6-0 lead in the first three innings. Andrea Miller doubled twice for Gayville-Volin (11-9).
