PIERRE – Another Pierre Governor football standout will play college football.
Tight end Jett Zabel, who will be a senior in the 2023 season, announced Thursday on social media that he has committed to play at North Dakota State, where his older brother, Grey, is a senior offensive lineman.
In 2022, as the Governors won a record-tying sixth consecutive 11AA state championship, Zabel was Pierre’s leader in receptions with 54 and touchdowns with 13. He was second on the team in receiving yardage with 842.
Zabel had offers from South Dakota, Pittsburgh, Alabama Birmingham, Army, Coastal Carolina, Western Michigan, Memphis, Wyoming and Ball State.
In his social media post, Zabel referred to how NDSU develops tight ends. Offensive coordinator Tyler Roehl also oversees tight ends. He also talked of his admiration for Bison strength and conditioning coach Jim Kramer. Zabel said, “Roehl really develops his tight ends and Kramer puts on good weight with their tight ends and it’s just a really good weight program.”
Thank you to everyone who has helped me out along the way. I am so grateful for this opportunity. With that being said, I’m committing to North Dakota State University to further my academic and athletic career!#rollherd pic.twitter.com/KZJOQput2s
