The South Dakota Hall of Fame Visitor & Education Center in Chamberlain (1480 S. Main) has opened an exhibit highlighting the South Dakota Hall of Fame inductees who have helped shape the American Highland Cattle Association.
This exhibit features the story of the inductees and individuals who helped form the AHCA: former South Dakota Governor and 1978 Inductee Thomas Berry of Rapid City, 1980 Inductee Baxter Berry of Belvidere, 1989 Inductee Lyndall Berry of Belvidere, 1991 Inductee George Bridge of Vermillion, Paul Berry of Norris, Ray Carr of Valentine, NE, Judy Holmes of Decker, MT, and Rank Forbes of Henry, IL.
The Highland Cattle Exhibit tells the story of pioneering ranchers’ lives in challenging times in our state. On August 30, 1948, a group of cattlemen and their wives met at the Double X Ranch, south of Belvidere, owned by Baxter and Lyndall Berry. This group organized the American Scotch Highland Breeders Association, (now the AHCA) which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
