The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources begins it’s pesticide container recycling collection schedule for 2023 today (July 10, 2023). Collections will continue through September 13.
Pesticide containers acceptable for recycling must meet the following minimum requirements:

Be triple-rinsed or equivalent;

Consist of high density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic of 2 1/2 gallons capacity or less;

Contain no visible pesticide residue inside or outside of the container; however, if the container held crop oil, a nutritional spray, an adjuvant or surfactant, or a Bacillus thuringensis product as the sole active ingredient, the presence of residue will not disqualify it for acceptance;

Contain no more than 0.5 fluid ounces of clear water; and
-
When possible, be delivered with labels on the container.

Pesticide Container Recycling Program
The DANR offers a waste pesticide, disposal, and pesticide container recycling program pursuant to SDCL 38:20A:54. All eligible waste pesticides are based on the toxicity of the pesticide, condition of the container, and the potential for the pesticide to harm human health or the environment. In accordance with ARSD 12:56:18, all containers must meet specific requirements to be accepted in the recycling program.
2023 Pesticide Container Collection Schedule and Sites
The locations below will accept prepared containers anytime during regular business hours BUT YOU MUST CALL AHEAD. The hours of operation at the container collection sites may vary. Please call the collection sites to ensure that someone will be there to assist you. In addition, please fill out the Waste Pesticide Registration Form.

- The product is no longer in usable condition (i.e. dry products that have caked or liquids that have settled and can’t be remixed)
- The product is unidentifiable or the label is missing, making proper use impossible
