The presidents of South Dakota State University and North Dakota State University are denying a claim that they are seeking spots for their schools in the Mountain West Conference.
This claim was recently made on a Montana radio show by former Montana Athletic Director Jim O’Day. On July 13, O’Day said on ESPN Missoula, “North Dakota State and South Dakota State, their presidents are actively trying to get into the Mountain West. They’re actively trying to get in. They’re a step up. They’re looking at it seriously. But again, do they fit with the other schools? They may not.”
Through a spokesperson, SDSU President Barry Dunn said that his institution has made no overtures to the Mountain West. NDSU President David Cook also denied that his school has any such designs, though administrators and coaches in Fargo have made no secret that Bison would be interested in the possibility of moving up to an FBS conference.
