PIERRE – On the rare instances that it’s happened in recent years, Pierre Governor Football has responded well the week after a loss. On Friday, this was the case again.
Cade Kaiser threw two touchdown passes to Jett Zabel, Trey Lewis rushed for one touchdown and ran back a punt for another and Brock Moser rushed for a score Friday as Pierre shut out Huron 35-0 at Hollister Field at Phil Trautner Stadium.
The win was the 73rd for Steve Steele as the Governors’ head coach, breaking the previous program record formerly held by Phil Trautner.
Huron drove to Pierre’s two yard line on the game’s first drive before the Governors stopped the Tigers on fourth down. Pierre (6-1) then drove 94 yards for the game’s first score, a three-yard run by Moser. Pierre led 7-0.
In the second quarter, after a missed Huron field goal, Kaiser hit Zabel with an 84-yard touchdown pass on third and 16 and Pierre led 14-0.
Later in the second quarter, Lewis scored on a 17-yard touchdown run and Pierre held a 21-0 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, Lewis gave Pierre a four-score lead with a 79-yard punt return score, then Kaiser threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Zabel.
Kaiser was 9-of-15 for 170 yards passing, two touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed 14 times for 78 yards.
Zabel had four catches for 121 yards.
Moser rushed 13 times for 76 yards and also caught four passes for 45 yards.
Emmit Andersen had five and a half tackles and Spencer Skjonsberg had an interception for the Pierre defense.
