The South Dakota Community Foundation recently awarded a $10,000 South Dakota Fund grant to the Southeast Pierre Community Center. Funding will support their continued mission to provide services to community members in the Pierre and Fort Pierre communities.
“Great things are happening at Southeast Pierre Community Center. We have re-energized our team and have many ideas of how to make it the best it can be. This would not be possible without the efforts of our volunteers, the support of our community through the donations, and the financial assistance provided by the South Dakota Community Foundation,” says Callie Iverson, Executive Director.
The Southeast Pierre Community Center hosts the community banquet, which is the only entity in the communities of Pierre and Fort Pierre that provides a free meal every week. In the Banquet’s 35-year history, 30 of them have been held at the Southeast Pierre Community Center. They serve approximately 250 meals a week. Their other programs include Senior Nutrition meals and a Summer Backpack program that they run in partnership with Feeding South Dakota.
“We are thankful for all of the endeavors of the Southeast Community Center,” says Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “Over the past 35 years, they have continued to be the sunshine in many people’s lives and have made a significant contribution in the well-being of thousands of citizens.”
