GOVS START HOT BUT TURN ICE COLD IN SATURDAY LOSS
SIOUX FALLS – High energy and timely playmaking had helped the Pierre Governor boys basketball team pull of two straight wins over Bismarck and Sioux Falls Lincoln and Saturday’s game at Sioux Falls Washington started out looking like that trend would continue. The Govs raced out to an 18-11 lead after one quarter and extended that lead to ten with a 3-pointer to start the second period, but the Warrior defense tightened up and the Govs went ice cold for the last three quarters. Washington came out on top in a 56-40 victory. Lubab Kambalo spurred the comeback scoring 13 points, all in the first half, as the Warriors led 30-28 at halftime. Three other players scored in double-digits to give Washington a balanced attack but the Warrior defense held the Governors top three scorers – Luke Olson, Jett Zabel and Dawson Getz – to just 20 points combined. Olson led Pierre with 12 points but the Govs shot less than 25 percent for the game. Pierre will take a 5-3 record to Winner Tuesday night for a tipoff scheduled for about 7:15 PM – pregame on RIVER 92-7 and https://drgnews.com/river at around 6:45.
