FEBRUARY 20, 2024:
Pierre Volunteer Fire Department members– whether it be the firefighters, the divers or the rescue squad– have to be ready to go at a moment’s notice.
Rescue Squad Captain Trevor Lightfield says they train monthly to keep their skills up to date.
Lightfield says along with wearing cold water suits this time of year, they may wear extra flotation gear.
He says much of the ice on bodies of water in the area right now isn’t solid.
Lightfield says if your pet falls through the ice, call 911 immediately; do NOT go in after it.
Lightfield says he’d be happy to chat with anyone who may be interested in becoming a member of the Pierre Fire Department.
