Hot wife with a chubby husband is a classic sitcom trope. But maybe it’s not that unrealistic after all . . .
A new study found men are more likely than women to “let themselves go” and gain weight as soon as they get hitched.
Men were about 5% more likely to become overweight within the first five years of marriage, compared to if they’d stayed single. And almost 3% more likely to become obese.
The same wasn’t true for women though. Once pregnancy and other stuff got factored in, the numbers for women were low enough to be statistically irrelevant.
The results showed that once men get married, they tend to start eating more and exercising less. And it got worse and worse as the marriage continued.
But the diet and exercise habits for wives stayed pretty much the same as when they were single.
