The Peaceful Pines Senior Living community in Fort Pierre hosted a grand opening celebration Friday afternoon (March 1, 2024).
Heather Janes is the Administrator of the brand-new facility, operated by HME Care.
Fort Pierre Mayor Gloria Hanson says when conversations with HME began about housing needs for the town, this type of facility wasn’t what they had it mind– but it’s turned out to work well.
Fort Pierre Development Corporation Executive Director Dave Bonde says people moving into Peaceful Pines will likely sell the home they had been living in, which does open up housing opportunities.
Peaceful Pines officially opened its doors in Fort Pierre in January (Jan. 2, 2024).

MARCH 1, 2024:
The new Peaceful Pines Senior Living community in Fort Pierre is hosting a grand opening celebration this afternoon (March 1, 2024).
Between 2-6pm CT, staff will give personalized tours of the Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Care living quarters and the shared community spaces. Remarks from Fort Pierre community leaders and Peaceful Pines leadership will begin in the community room at 3:3pm, followed by a ribbon cutting with the Pierre and Fort Pierre Chambers of Commerce.
The brand-new facility officially opened its doors in January (Jan. 2, 2024).
HME Care, the company that operates Peaceful Pines, currently has senior living communities open in Milbank, Fort Pierre and Rapid City, with facilities under construction at Spearfish, Madison, Huron and Brookings.

OCTOBER 13, 2023:
Part of a new senior living complex in Fort Pierre will open late next month (Nov. 2023).
Peaceful Pines Administrator Heather Janes says contractors are finishing up work in some areas.
Janes says Peaceful Pines will offer three levels of care, one of which is independent living.
Janes says they also offer assisted living units and memory care units.
She says they will be able to give tours to help folks decide if they want to move into Peaceful Pines, but they can’t do those tours just yet.

OCTOBER 3, 2023:
A new senior living complex in Fort Pierre is hiring staff and getting closer to opening its doors.
Owners had hoped to open the Peaceful Pines facility Oct. 1, 2023, but Mayor Gloria Hanson says there’s been a few different things causing the delay.
Hanson says based on what she’s been told, interest in Peaceful Pines– for both employment or as a residence– has been good.
The facility will have 15 memory care units, 20 assisted living units and 19 independent living units along with community activity space.

JULY 14, 2023:
The company building a new senior living complex in Fort Pierre says the facility is expected to open Oct. 1, 2023.
Victoria Blatchford is a Senior Vice-President for HME Care, the company that owns and operates Peaceful Pines senior living communities. She says they emphasize interacting with other residents.
Blatchford says they are the first senior living community in South Dakota to offer Care Predict technology for the residents and their loved ones.
Along with health information, Blatchford says Care Predict helps staff be more efficient in the care they provide.
The facility will have 15 memory care units, 20 assisted living units and 19 independent living units along with community activity space.

What’s been referred to as the Yellowstone Senior Living Complex being built in Fort Pierre will actually have a different name.
Mayor Gloria Hanson says Peaceful Pines is expected to open Sept. 1, 2023.
Phase one of the development will have 63 units, with more being added in phase two.
AUGUST 26, 2022:
Ground has been broken (Aug. 2022) and construction can begin on the new Yellowstone Senior Living complex being built in Fort Pierre.
Business Development Director for HME Management Bobbie Bohlen says when she first started looking into building in Fort Pierre, workforce housing was the goal.
Bohlen sees the Yellowstone Senior Living complex as a starting point for them in Fort Pierre.
She says phase one of the development will have 63 units, with more being added in phase two.
The initial 63 units are expected to be completed within a year, with the family apartments scheduled to be ready by early fall 2023.

UPDATE APRIL 21, 2022:
The new senior living development being built in Fort Pierre now has a name.
Mayor Gloria Hanson says it reflects the town’s history.
Hanson says the city council still needs to fully approve the development project.
HME, the company building the Yellowstone Senior Living development in Fort Pierre, plans to break ground for the 49 units in Phase 1 sometime this summer. The company also plans to build multifamily housing in Fort Pierre within the next five years, for a total investment of $20 million.

JANUARY 21, 2022:
A new senior living complex is going to be built in Fort Pierre.
Mayor Gloria Hanson calls it the “biggest thing that’s happened to Fort Pierre in many years.”
Hanson says there will be three different types of housing in the complex.
The senior living complex hasn’t even been built yet and Hanson says the property management company is already planning Phase 2.
HME plans to break ground for the 49 units in Phase 1 of the project sometime this summer. The company also plans to build multifamily housing in Fort Pierre within the next five years, for a total investment of $20 million.
Yellowstone would be a wonderful name. Peaceful Pines is awful. Ilder adults don’t appreciate a name that sounds like it’s a place to go to die.
