SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The South Dakota State University men’s basketball team jumped out to a double-digit lead just over seven minutes into The Summit League championship game and never trailed as the Jackrabbits defeated Denver, 76-68, enroute to their seventh Summit League tournament title Tuesday (March 12, 2024) at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.
The Jacks led by as many as 23 midway through the second half before going nearly 7 minutes without a field goal and withstood a Denver rally that saw the Pioneers come to within 6 points in the final minute. Doug Mims sank 4 free throws to seal the deal for SDSU.
Five different Jackrabbits scored in double digits. Luke Appel and Zeke Mayo scored 16 points apiece. William Kyle III recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Mims and Kalen Garry each scored 11 points.
Named to the conference’s All-Tournament Team were Appel, Kyle III and Mayo. Kyle III was honored as the Tournament MVP.
The Jackrabbits are now 28-9 all-time at The Summit League tournament. SDSU is 7-1 all-time in the conference title game.
