With main law making session complete, District 24 legislators thinking about summer studies

With only veto day left in South Dakota’s 99^th legislative session, lawmakers are thinking about what topics to have interim and summer study committees focus on.

Representative and House Majority Leader Will Mortenson of Fort Pierre thinks illegal drugs, current state drug policies and their impact on the state are one possibility.

Representative Mike Weisgram of Fort Pierre would like to see more information gathered about the state’s eminent domain laws.

Senator Jim Mehlhaff of Pierre thinks eminent domain and protecting children from access to pornography may be looked into further.

Mortenson and Weisgram are members of the legislature’s interim Executive Board, the group that will decide what topics get studied. They’ll make a decision later this spring.
