“The Neverending Story” is 40 years old, if you can believe it. And by today’s Hollywood standards, that makes it WAY overripe for a remake. And that’s what’s happening.
But this time, the plan is to make a whole SERIES of films. Because if there’s one thing Hollywood loves more than remakes and reboots, it’s FRANCHISES. The original had two sequels that nobody really remembers, in 1990 and 1994.
(But neither one of them had a scene as TRAUMATIZING as Artax drowning in the Swamp of Sadness. It’s been four FREAKIN’ decades, and my therapist STILL has to hear about it at least once a month.)
The movie actually got a little boost in 2019, when the theme song was prominently featured in Season 3 of “Stranger Things”.
(And, as you can see at the end of the video, Artax is indeed resurrected. But too late to save my delicate psyche.)
