Today (March 29, 2024) is National Vietnam War Veterans Day. In South Dakota, it’s “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Recognition Day.”
More than 27,000 South Dakotans were called upon to serve in the United States military during the Vietnam War. Of those, 210 made the ultimate sacrifice.
Greg Whitlock, Secretary of the state Department of Veterans Affairs, says this day is a well-deserved recognition for soldiers who selflessly served during the Vietnam War. He encourages people to recognize the sacrifices made by service members, their families, and the entire nation during the Vietnam War.
