The Walworth County Commission held a regular meeting on Tuesday, April 9th.
Register of Deeds
Register of Deeds, Brenda DeToy, informed the commissioners of an individual threatening a lawsuit against the county regarding a federal tax lien filed that states both the individual’s name and a business. DeToy said she contacted State’s Attorney Vaughn Beck. Beck recommended that the individual contact the IRS agent who placed the lien to see if one of the names could be released.
Poor Relief
The commissioners passed a motion to deny county assistance for a medical expenditure that did not have pre-authorization before a voluntary mental health commitment.
Highway
For the Highway Department, the commission approved maintenance on Java city streets, renting a road grader from the County.
The commissioners approved the hiring of Joanna Nehls at the Highway Department, and also hiring Penny Goetz part-time on a temporary basis to train the new employee and Highway Superintendent Tom Hannan.
The commission also approved extending weight limits until further notice.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, discussion on the Tisdall property in Mobridge was tabled to the next meeting.
A new community health nurse contract for $37,500 with Mobridge Regional Hospital was approved for the Chairman to sign.
Steve Roseland from Faulk County visited with the commission and answered questions regarding the Faulk County Jail. Roseland is a candidate for South Dakota Senate District 23.
Dean Marske from HKG Architects presented a jail plan update for the commissioners to look over. The plan includes 36 beds in individual cells along with day rooms and re-doing the parking lot. Marske said the current cost is at $9,680,000.00.
Under Old Business, Commissioner Duane Mohr reported that two county vehicles sold at auction in Ashley, North Dakota, bringing in a total of $6,750.00.
