MARTIN, S.D. —- White River senior Ethan Watson did something this week that very few high school athletes in South Dakota have done. Watson won the shot put at Monday’s (May 13, 2024) Bennett County Invitational Track Meet, breaking the 60-foot barrier with a throw of 60’-6.5”– currently the best mark in Class B. Watson joins Rapid City Stevens’ Elias Gillen (60-0.25) and Sioux Falls Christian’s Paul Hoekman (61-1) as the only athletes to hit 60-feet in the shot put this season. Watson also won the discus with a toss of 153-7.

North Central swept team titles at Monday’s (May 13, 2024) Eureka Lions Club track and field meet. The North Central girls racked up 216 points, finishing ahead of Herreid/Selby Area (180) and South Border, North Dakota (104). The North Central boys finished ahead of Herreid/Selby Area and South Border.
Mobridge-Pollock highlights in the boys was winning the 800-meter relay (1:36.56) and sprint medley relay (3:49.14).
Herreid/Selby Area’s Matthew Neeley won the 100-meter dash (:12.12) and placed third in the 200-meter dash (:24.62) and Carter Hinsz won the shot put (43-11.75).
Herreid/Selby Area’s Keegan Russel won the 800-meter run (2:14.98).
In girls highlights, Herreid/Selby Area’s Breanna Jochim won the 100-meter dash (:12.95) and long jump (16-8), while she ran on the winning 400-meter relay (:52.08) and winning 800-meter relay (1:50.21). The HSA girls also won the 3,200-meter relay (11:04.76).
Mobridge-Pollock’s Ryli Thompson won the 200-meter dash (:26.35), 400-meter dash (1:00.77) and Mobridge-Pollock’s Heidi Olson won the 3,200-meter run (11:33.26).
