MAY 14, 2024:
The Pierre-Fort Pierre Kiwanis Club presented scholarships totaling $8,500 to six Stanley County High School seniors May 14, 2024, at the school’s awards night.
Luna Garcia was awarded both a $500 Don London Memorial Perkins Scholarship and a $750 award from the Minnesota-Dakotas Kiwanis Educational Foundation. Cadence Hand received the $1,000 Melvin Wall Memorial Scholarship, Barret Schweitzer won a $500 Kiwanis University Scholarship, Dalyn Heezen was presented a $500 Kiwanis Vocational Scholarship, Mattie Duffy won the $500 Jim Valnes Community Volunteer Kiwanis Scholarship, and Tatum Scott was awarded the $300 Kiwanis Fellowship of Christian Athletes Scholarship.
Also this year, 14 Pierre Riggs High School students received scholarships totaling $8,500 from Kiwanis.
Kiwanis meets the first and third Tuesdays at Perkins Restaurant. The club has a variety of service projects throughout the year to raise money, mostly for local youth. For more information, text 605-280-4165.

The Pierre-Fort Pierre Kiwanis Club presented scholarships totaling $7,500 to 13 graduating seniors from Pierre Riggs High School on April 30, 2024, at the school’s annual awards night.
Abigail Kropp received the $1,000 Melvin Wall Memorial Scholarship, Claire Steffensen received the $1,000 Colleen Weiss Memorial Educational Scholarship, and Tatum Gunderson was awarded the $500 Don London Memorial Perkins Scholarship.
Aleise Christopherson, Ava Doyle, Jillian Hansen, Erin Leiferman, Jordan Mayer, Jazzlyn Rombough, Spencer Skjonsberg and Reese Terwilliger each received a $500 Kiwanis University Scholarhip, and Joslyn Bush and Brock Moser received $500 Kiwanis Vocational Scholarships.
In addition to those awards from the club, Corbin Beastrom was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Minnesota-Dakotas Kiwanis District Educational Foundation.
Awards for Stanley County students will be announced Tuesday (May 14, 2024).
Kiwanis has a variety of fund-raisers throughout the year to raise money mostly to benefit local youth. Kiwanis meets the first and third Tuesdays of the month at Perkins in Fort Pierre. For more information, text 605-280-4165.
