SIOUX FALLS, S.D.— The field is set for the Class ‘A’ state baseball tournament as the final seven teams secured their spots on Saturday (May 18, 2024)— and it was a day that the Pierre Governor High School Spring baseball team likely won’t forget.
The only opening round series that went to a decisive winner-take-all game was between Yankton and Pierre. After the Governors won the opener on Friday, the Bucks swept Saturday’s action 4-3 in game one and 16-6 in the finale ending the Governors season.
In other action, top-ranked Harrisburg rolled to a 13-0 win over Washington as Braxton Kusler tossed a perfect game for the Tigers, who jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first inning.
Lincoln and O’Gorman also picked up shutout victories. The Patriots blasted Huron 14-0. The Knights blanked Jefferson 11-0.
Brandon Valley secured a narrow 4-3 win over Mitchell.
The Roosevelt Rough Riders held on for a 5-4 win at Brookings and Rapid City Stevens dominated Rapid City Central 18-1.
Tea Area advanced to the state tournament with a sweep of Sturgis on Thursday (May 16, 2024).
