Troopers from South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa are teaming up ahead of the Memorial Day weekend to educate drivers and help keep roads safe. Troopers will be meeting along Interstate 90 at the Valley Spring Welcome Center near the Minnesota and South Dakota border. A roll-over simulator and a seat belt convincer (a device that allows a person to experience the actual force of a low-impact collision), will be on display. Troopers will be available for interviews.
The event begins at 10am, today (May 24, 2024).
During the 2023 Memorial Day holiday period, there were 254 reported traffic crashes, two fatalities and 77 injuries on South Dakota highways. Safety equipment such as seat belts and helmets are critical to saving lives whether a driver or a passenger.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
