LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Criminal charges against Scottie Scheffler have been dismissed, ending a legal saga that began with images of the world’s top golfer being arrested and handcuffed in Louisville during the PGA Championship. Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell, a local prosecutor, asked a judge Wednesday afternoon (May 29, 2024) to drop the four charges against Scheffler. Scheffler was not required to be in the courtroom Wednesday. Scheffler was charged with a felony for assaulting a police officer with his vehicle, along with three misdemeanors. Scheffler has said he simply misunderstood the commands coming from traffic officers.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Masters champion Scottie Scheffler was arrested Friday morning (May 17, 2024) on his way to the PGA Championship. Stunning images showed him handcuffed as he was led to a police car. He was arrested for second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and not following police directions. He was booked into jail at 7:28 a.m. He was released and arrived at Valhalla at 9:12 a.m. Police say a pedestrian was hit by a bus on the road leading to Valhalla Golf Club. ESPN says Scheffler drove past a police car and was chased down and cuffed.

Stunning images showed him handcuffed as he was led to a police car. ESPN reported he failed to follow police orders following a pedestrian fatality investigation. Police say a pedestrian was hit by a bus on the road leading to Valhalla Golf Club in a lane dedicated to tournament traffic. ESPN says Scheffler drove past a police car and was chased down and cuffed. Traffic was shut down for about a mile. The second round was delayed.
