A drive through Pierre Wednesday morning (June 5, 2024) didn’t go as planned for a 29 year old semi driver from Arizona…. And unsurprisingly, that’s because of the town’s low-clearance train bridge on Pierre Street.
A spokesman for the Pierre Police Department says officers were called to the train viaduct at approximately 2:50am because a northbound 2016 Freightliner Cascadia truck pulling an enclosed trailer had become stuck underneath the bridge. Officers had to shut down northbound traffic on Pierre Street for about an hour and a half while crews worked to remove the truck and trailer.
The driver, Abdullah Alshaikhli of Avondale, AZ, was cited for failure to obey a traffic signal. As usual, there was no apparent damage to Pierre’s infamous train bridge.
